Sportswear and apparel giant Nike has designed the soccer kit made from recycled polyester for the US Women's National Team (USWNT).
This is Nike's first women's-specific integrated soccer collection that is made from recycled polyester.
The kit includes jersey, shorts and socks that are made with recycled polyester. It's said that each kit is made using an average of 18 recycled plastic bottles.
The recycled plastic bottles are first melted down to produce fine yarn which is then used to make the kit.
The kit is not only environment-friendly, Nike claims that the dual-knit cotton and recycled polyester fabric will provide a softer feel too. The kit weighs 16% lighter than the former ones and will maximise speed and comfort.
It also features a breakthrough cooling system with the ability to push sweat away from the body to the exterior of the shirt and shorts where it quickly evaporates. Plus, the laser-cut ventilation side holes and strategic mesh paneling, including a full-mesh jersey back, are expected to increase air circulation and thermoregulation.
Nike says that a replica of the women's uniform will be available in men's sizes too.
Earlier this year, Nike designed the Indian cricket team's jersey and kit which the side sported in the tri-series against Australia and England, followed by the Cricket World Cup.
More such innovations will be discussed at Polyester Innovations 2015 on 9-10 June in Istanbul.

Energy giant Reliance Industries Ltd. is commissioning two petrochemical plants in Gujarat - one is a 1,150 KTA Purified Terephthalic Acid (PTA) plant and another 650 KTA PET resin (Polyethylene Terephthalate) capacity.
The PET and PTA produced by the plants will be used for making polyester plastic used in clothing, packaging, foods & beverages and plastic bottles.
With these new plants, RIL's total PTA capacity will increase to 3.2 million tonnes per annum and its global capacity share will rise to 4 per cent. The energy major also has another PTA plant of similar capacity under construction in Gujarat. Together this will help Reliance become one of the top five PTA producers globally.
Although India is the second largest producer of polyester with a production of 5.4 million tonnes per annum and its polyester market growing at 8-10 per cent per annum, the country faces a deficit of more than 1.5 million tonnes per annum of PTA.
RIL's PTA expansion plans can bridge this gap and help the country move towards PTA self-sufficiency while being in tune with Prime Minister Narendra Modi's vision of 'Make in India'.
The new PET plant, on the other hand, is one of the largest bottle grade PET resin capacity at a single location globally, positioning Reliance as a leading PET resin producer with more than 1.15 million tonnes of PET resin capacity.
This will help the company capture the demand for PET packaging in India which is one of the fastest growing markets with demand growing at 15-20 per cent per annum.
More on RIL's polyester market strategies will be discussed at Polyester Innovations 2015 via the session on 'Changing Dynamics of Polyester Led Growth in Textile & Nonwovens' delivered by Rakesh Gaur, Sector Head - Polyester, Reliance Industries Ltd. The summit is scheduled on 9-10 June, 2015 in Istanbul.

BB Engineering's (BBE) has unveiled the world's first VarioFil R+ bottle-to-POY spinning line at its facilities in Remscheid, Germany. The line produces 150f48 dope-dyed black yarn using recycled bottle flakes as feedstock.
The spinning line is developed by its subsidiary Oerlikon Barmag. A special extrusion system for bottle flake materials, latest metering and blending technology for dope-dyeing, and an advanced 2-step melt filtration are used in the line which helps produce high quality dope-dyed POY.
The line not only helps to turn used PET bottles into synthetic fibres, but save energy and investment costs as it uses PET bottle flakes as a raw material, which avoids the additional pelletizing of bottle flakes into rPET chips.
The process will also enable recycling companies to sell high-quality yarns instead of bottle flakes, thereby providing added value.
More on PET bottles to polyester conversion will be discussed at CMT's Polyester Innovations on 9-10 June, 2015 in Istanbul.
