Veolia along with Móstoles Ecoenergía has recently inaugurated a 12.5 MW biomass district heating system in Spain. The biomass heating project has already got an investment of €7 million ($8.27 million) in the first phase.
In the initial phase of the project, heating is expected to be provided to about 3,000 homes with further plans to provide heating to an additional 4,000 homes by summer of 2018.
Already 4 kilometers of pipeline have been laid out for the project along with 13 exchange substations.
The heating plant comprise three Uniconfort biomass boilers of which two have an output of 5,000 kW, and one has a capacity of 2,000 kW.
The district heating plant in Spain will consume 5,934 metric tons of biomass annually. The wood chips feedstock is procured locally from land managed by Enerbosque Extremadura S.L.
The environment friendly plant is anticipated to reduce CO2 emissions by 9,000 metric tons annually, while reducing energy costs by 15 percent.
