Parx Plastics Plans bioplastics Manufacturing Facility in China

Posted on : 16 Mar, 2018

Netherlands-based Parx Plastics BV is planning to build a new bioplastics manufacturing facility in China. The company has collaborated with Sino-Italy Tus Investment (Zhejiang) Co. Ltd. to setup a new joint venture named - Ningbo Parx New Materials Co. Ltd.

The production facility to be located at the Sino-Italy Ecological Park, in the Yangtze River Delta near Ningbo will be using Parx’s patented biocompatible antimicrobial plastics production technology. By applying biomimetics and nanotechnology, Parx developed a method to make an intrinsic change to plastic, resulting in a mechanical/physical property that acts against bacteria and micro-organisms.

The technology doesn’t use any chemicals, biocides, heavy metals or nano-particles when producing plastics. Instead, it makes use of zinc salts, which are incorporated during polymerization into the polymeric structure of the thermoplastic, thus eliminating the risk of migration. Zinc is completely biocompatible too.

In 2014, Parx Plastics launched its first ready-to-use Saniconcentrates for manufacturers in Europe and the U.S. to safely create self-sanitising products with an antibacterial property of up to 99% within 24 hours.

The Sino-Italy Ecological Park is a JV between the Chinese and Italian governments that aims to promote resource saving, environment friendly and ecological innovations. The 40-square-kilomter zone plans to house companies in the field of new materials, plastics, automotive, aerospace and clean energy.

Prospects of bioplastics in Asia will be discussed at CMT’s 7th Biobased Chemicals and Plastics on 5-8 June, 2018, in Bangkok.
