Enka: a story of transformation and innovation
Enka was founded in 1964 by the Dutch group Akzo Nobel, along with important textile companies from Colombia, to produce and sell man-made resins and fibers aimed to develop the Colombian industry and society.

Our production plant in Girardota, a town 17 miles (28 km) from Medellin, began operations in 1966 with an initial capacity of 9 million pounds (4,200 metric tons) per year. Today, our capacity exceeds 220 million pounds (100,000 metric tons) per year.

Enka is known as a leader in PET bottle recycling in Colombia, and as the main producer of nylon 6 tire cord fabrics throughout the Americas. We are the major producer of textile filaments and fibers in the Andean Region, and rank as one of the major players in Latin America.

We are focused on resins and fibers produced from recycled PET bottles as well as filaments, industrial yarns, and nylon and polyester resins made from virgin petroleum derivatives. Today, Enka exports almost half of its sales to more than 15 countries.
