Capturing new market shares in fast growing region
Middle East & Africa’s PET markets have been witnessing profitable growth. With PET consumption in the region jumping by 7.5% CAGR in the next five years.
In Middle East, PET almost dominates the package water segment. Only large containers are made of polycarbonates, even so, there has been initiatives of 4-litre and 10-litre bottles made out of PET. Market share of PET in the CSD segment overtook that of cans and glasses, it currently monopolizes family sized bottles. Single serve packs will continue to drive the growth of PET in water and CSD. PET has also made waves in the fresh milk and juice sector, which used to be predominantly filled in HDPE. 200-ml size milk bottles have been highly popular; growth is also expected in larger one and two-litre bottles. The edible oil segment is also seeing high conversions to PET, dramatically reducing the demand for HDPE.
The PET demand in Africa is also very positive. Market share of PET from Egypt to Nigeria, Sudan, Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, Tunisia, and Algeria is on the climb. Major applications are water and CSD, but dairy, juice, household, and personal care products are also starting to convert to PET packaging.
