Ms. Vanessa Adams

Vanessa Adams has over 20 years of professional experience, including with Fortune 500 companies in the US. She has fourteen years' experience working in 27 African countries with businesses and farmer cooperatives to increase productivity, meet buyer specifications, access finance, and compete in international markets. She partners with governments, donors and businesses to develop and implement strategies which increase productivity and international trade, expand investments, improve business environments, access financial services as well as reduce constraints to trade.

 

Vanessa managed $50+ million USD USAID-funded projects with multi-cultural teams, facilitated over $300 million in exports from Africa, and catalyzed over $57 million in investments as well as over $140 million in credit. She contributed to the foundation of three pan-African NGOs including the African Cashew Alliance, Borderless Alliance, and Global Shea Alliance, as well as initiating the Women in Agribusiness Leadership Network in Ethiopia.

 

Vanessa has an Executive MBA from INSEAD.

Mr. Christophe Galléan

Christophe Galléan is the Founder and Managing Director/CEO of CSTC – Cassava Starch of Tanzania. He has over 25 years of experience in Management, International Business Development and Private Equity (LBO and Venture Capital) in Europe, US and Africa covering Internet, Manufacturing, Biomass processing and several Cleantech sub-segments. He has managed several businesses, run two mid-size high tech companies and served on the board of 15 companies.

 

Christophe started his agro-industrial activities in West Africa in 2010. Studies were launched for activities in Tanzania in late 2011 and CSTC was incorporated in 2012. He has federated the team of initial co-shareholders, recruited the operational group of experienced senior managers, oversaw the land and financing process as he secured financing with African, Asian and European financial and industrial entities or institutions. Although fairly recent, the plantation is thriving and driving the structuring of the local cassava industry and value-chain in the Lindi Region.

 

He holds a MSc in Engineering from Ecole Centrale de Paris, a MBA from Columbia University Business School and a MTSI from Stanford University Business School.

Mr. M D Ramesh

.Ramesh has made a distinguished career expertise in Agriculture /Food Commodities and Africa. His geographical supervision consists of 20 countries in Central, South and East Africa. His current strategic business unit employs over 3,000 people including 50 top global managers. He serves on the Olam's Global OPCO and ManCo.


Ramesh joined Olam at its inception in Nigeria 24 years ago, and has been a part of the core team that saw the company grow from a green field start up to a Singapore listed USD 18 billion revenue organization today. Ramesh has lived and worked in multiple countries across Africa and also headed Olam's India operations at one time and started Olam's trading desk in Europe before returning to Africa.


Ramesh has worked closely with farmer groups, worked alongside government programs, set up and run logistics and processing operations and also set up distribution structures in a variety of African markets. He is widely consulted by banks, government structures, NGOs and private businesses. He is based in Durban and teaches at the University of Cape town.

Dominique Gouvernayre is a French citizens and graduated with an Agriculture degree in 1974. He started at SGS in March 1976 in the agriculture division and celebrating next year 40 years in the group! Since 2014, he is the Vice President for Agriculture and food services for the whole Africa region leading the team and focus on business development for all SGS services ( Quality supervision , laboratories , fumigation ,seeds and crops, logistic)


Before moving to Africa in 1995, he worked in Europe for 21 years and was in charge of SGS Grain services development and Grain terminal management. In Africa, he has been the regional managing director for Central and West Africa region leading 10 SGS Business lines and was based in Brazzaville , Douala, Accra and Abidjan.

Mr. Craig Hardie

Craig Hardie is the Co-Founder and former Joint Managing Director of Malawi Mangoes, an inclusive agribusiness in Malawi. Along with his business partner Jonathan Jacobs, he created an organisation which in five short years: raised US$55m in investment from a blend of private and public sector investors (including the International Finance Corporation), created a blended supply chain of Rain Forest Alliance certified, drip-irrigated anchor farms and a burgeoning smallholder programme affecting 25,000 of the rural poor, and signed and delivered against contracts with international and regional juice giants Coca-Cola, Pepsico, Doehler, Rhodes Food Group and Ceres.

 

He is now Co-Founder of Longevity Development, an advisory and operations implementation business that works with public and private sector, to bring together 'best in class' competencies in the Developing World in pursuit of launching and building lasting, progressive enterprises, and creating opportunities for the next generation of innovators, leaders and activists.

Fabrice is Head of Procurement & Demand Supply Planning for Nestlé Equatorial African Region. He has almost 20 years' experience in Procurement. After having worked in the automotive & consulting industries, Fabrice joined Nestlé 14 years ago. During this time, he supported strategic sourcing of Direct & Indirect materials across the world. Prior to his relocation in Nairobi, Kenya, 4 years ago, he was procurement manager for Nestlé Nespresso, based in Lausanne, Switzerland.


Nestlé Equatorial African Region oversees the multinational's operations in 20 countries including 4 factories, and Fabrice is currently responsible for the sourcing needs of the factories & offices, local production planning as well as the supply planning of imported finished products.

Fabrice is a Physics Engineer and holds an MBA with specialization in Procurement.

Nadia studied Economics and Development and worked extensively in Africa as a development professional with cross-disciplinary experience in project planning, management and execution at field level, resource mobilization, donor relationship management, community mobilization in the public health and agriculture sectors.

 

She joined Export Trading Group Farmers Foundation in 2012 where she works closely with smallholder farmers and leads a team of competent and dedicated project managers, agronomists, analysts, extension and community officers across East Africa to equip farmers with knowledge and skills needed to succeed beyond subsistence farming in a sustainable way, connecting them to the global economy.

Geoffrey Israel Kirenga

Mr. Geoffrey Israel Kirengais the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the SAGCOT Centre Ltd. Mr. Kirenga has a wealth of experience in East African agriculture value chains. He is the former Director of the Crop Development Division at the Tanzania Ministry of Agriculture, Food Security and Cooperatives. Prior to this position, Mr. Kirenga specialized in crop promotion services, pest management and plant protection.

 

Mr. Kirenga has an extensive network in both the Tanzanian and international agriculture and agribusiness communities, and he is highly committed to drive the Southern Agricultural Growth Corridor of Tanzania to delivering on its role as the catalyst dedicated to transforming Tanzania's agriculture sector.

Ms. Angela Mandi

Angela Mandi is Stanbic Bank Tanzania’s Head of Corporate and Investment Banking – Credit. Her roles encompass developing the team in the CIB Credit space and ensuring a sound portfolio, among other responsibilities. Angela has over a decade of work experience in Investment Banking, Credit Risk Management, Corporate Finance Mergers & Acquisition Structuring. Besides working for Standard Bank Group in both Kenya and South Africa in the capacity of Senior Credit Manager, she has also worked for Barclays Capital in the United States of America and Barclays Capital UK as an Investment Banking Analyst. She has also held other positions within Barclays Bank Group in Kenya, South Africa and Botswana, including stints at two major Audit firms; KPMG and PwC in Kenya as a Graduate Trainee and Corporate Finance Associate respectively.

Mr. Tom Davies

Tom (Thomas) Davies is the Head of Corporate Farming for Case IH Middle East and Africa, leading the team responsible for special projects in the agricultural sector. The activity includes advice on suitable equipment (agricultural machines, construction equipment, commercial vehicles and power generation), agronomic support, precision farming and telematics recommendations, seeking out innovative solutions for finance, local training programmes and in-field support of the equipment. The projects can range from smallholding development projects to multinational corporations requests for advice or support. Approximately 50% of this activity is related to sugar cane production.

 

Having joined the company 22 years ago in 1995, Tom was initially the project manager in Turkmenistan supporting the first major delivery of 300 Case IH Axial Flow combines, followed by a spell in Ukraine to support a similar project. In 1999 he became responsible for all after sales activities within CIS. Since his time in aftersales, Tom has held various positions for Africa, Middle East and Asia Pacific, with responsibilities including commercial, harvester product management, and parts.

 

Before joining the Case IH team, Tom was the manager of a private Farming Company in the United Kingdom, a position that he held following his graduation in Agricultural Management at Lackham College, UK, in 1984.

Mr. Patrick Oketa

Mr. Patrick Oketa is the Associate Director for Portfolio at Acumen in East Africa. He leads and guides the team in shaping Acumen's portfolio strategy, management process, team and influence in East Africa. Patrick bears a wealth of experience in private equity, project financing, project cycle management, and a practical understanding of how resources can best flow to those who need them most.

 

Over the last 15 years, he has worked with various projects and entrepreneurs to deliver practical financial and social value and added innovative solutions to their businesses across Africa. Patrick joined Acumen from the Uganda Development Bank where he was the Director of Development Finance, a position that allowed him to oversee the development and improvement of credit, risk management and customer service at the largest government owned bank in Uganda. Prior to that, he was a Partner at Pearl Capital Partner - a fund manager that focuses on investments in the Agribusiness value chain in East and southern Africa. In the past, Patrick was the Chief Investment Officer of the African Agricultural Capital and also worked as the international fund manager Actis where he was responsible for the administration of the $100 million Actis Agribusiness Fund. He began his banking career at the East African Development Bank where he worked for 5 years in Uganda and Kenya in various capacities.

 

Patrick attained an honors degree from Makerere University, an MBA from the University of Nairobi and holds an MA in Banking and Finance from Middlesex University.

Jon has over 15 years of proven development and management expertise in the agribusiness sector and a broad base of experience implementing large scale agricultural projects throughout the African continent. In addition he has advised numerous clients across different production systems in Malawi, Uganda, Angola, Mozambique, Niger, Guinee as well as in Vietnam and Indonesia.

 

He has worked with PE investors, financial institutions, agribusinesses, and nongovernmental organizations. Jon trained at Weston Agricultural College, holds a Bachelors and Masters degree in agriculture from the University of Pretoria, South Africa, and a Diploma in Oil palm plantation management from the Malaysian Palm Oil Board.
