Ms. Babette Pettersen

Babette is Chief Business Development Officer at Capricorn Venture Partners, a European manager of venture capital and equity funds. Capricorn have recently launched a Sustainable Chemistry Fund, for next generation feedstocks, chemicals and materials, which will focus on innovative companies with novel or bio-based technologies.


Before joining Capricorn, Babette was the Chief Commercial Officer for BioAmber Inc., a market leader in bio-based succinic acid. Prior to this, Babette led new business development for Performance Materials at Royal DSM after 20 years in Marketing & New Business Development at Dow Corning.


Babette has a BSc in Biology from Wellesley College, USA and an MBA from INSEAD.  She is on the Advisory Committee of the Green Chemistry and Commerce Council (GC3) for the European Forum of Industrial Biotechnology(EFIB) and Bio-Based Live.

Dr. Noppadon Cheamsawat

Noppadon Cheamsawat has joined Sutech Engineering Co., Ltd., the sugar technology engineering company, with a task to develop the R&D activities in non-sugar technologies, however, related to sugar refineries , with the use of sugar cane molasses , carbohydrates (cassava and paddy rice) and the related feedstocks. Specifically, he is now overseeing a project development in C-3 technology refinery, based on NordBioChem's C3-Bio-Chemistry platform and Sutech's engineering expertise. 

Before joining Sutech, he was the Associate Professor in Chemical Engineering at King Mongkut's University of Technology Thonburi and had also been the Director of the Institute  for Scientific and Technological Researches and Services  at the same university.

He holds the Bachelor's degree in Chemical Technology from Chulalongkorn University, with Ph.D (Chemical Engineering) from Northwestern University, USA., and a Postdoctoral in Bioprocessing from Lund University , Sweden.

His previous R&D and industrial works were mainly in separation process and membrane technology with special applications in processing technology, including the cell concentration for bioreactor performance enhancing.

Dr. Vidhya Rangaswamy

Dr. Vidhya Rangaswamy holds a Ph.D. in Biochemistry from the University of Mumbai and has done her post-doctoral research at University of Massachussetts and Oklahoma State University.  Currently, she is the Vice President, Industrial Biotechnology Group in Reliance Industries Limited.


Dr. Vidhya Rangaswamy is a leading Biotechnologist with over 30 years of experience in the area of Biopolymers, Biofuels and Biochemicals.  Her research in the biopolymer field encompasses developing processes for poly lactic acid, 1,3-propanediol and hyaluronic acid.  The process for hyaluronic acid has been commercialized.  In the area of biofuels, competitive process for biobutanol from lignocellulosic biomass, biodiesel from yeast oil are some of the highlights. 


Biochemicals processes were developed for gibberellic acid and immunosuppressants such as tacrolimus and sirolimus.  Currently, her group is working on designing pathways and developing biological processes for chemicals that are currently obtained through the petrochemical route.  Dr. Vidhya has over 41 international publications in peer-reviewed journals and filed 21 patents of which 10 are granted.

Ms. Chommanad Thammanayakatip is a Managing Consultant based in Bangkok office.  Chommanad has managed petrochemical projects in Asia covering various areas including market analysis, benchmarking, technology evaluation, and project feasibility study.  She has also taken a focus in due diligence work and evaluations for Project Sponsors, and has extensive experience in leading all aspects of project development (technical, commercial/market, environmental).  Chommanad has extensive technical/manufacturing and commercial experience having worked previously with Siam Polyethylene (a joint venture of SCG and Dow Chemical) and now having been with Nexant for more than twelve years.

Dr. Wolfgang Baltus

Dr. Wolfgang Baltus has completed his PhD in Natural Products Chemistry from the Technical University Carolo-Wilhelmina of Braunschweig in 1987/ He has been working as consultant for several biopolymer and biorefinery projects in South-East Asia. He is a former advisor of the National Innovation Agency (NIA), responsible for the implementation of the National Bioplastic roadmap in Thailand and has worked for BASF in business development management for the coating markets in Asia for 15 years.


He is the founder of Wobaltexpedition Consultancy, an independent consultancy service provider. He is one of the supporting experts of the German NOVA Institute for the market study on bio-based polymers/building blocks and is part of the advisory board for the NOVA conferences in this matter. He has supported the UNEP regarding their Eco-Innovation manual.

Mr. Mukund Rao

Mukund Rao has been working in Thailand since 1978 and has set up three grass roots chemicals projects. Mukund Rao was a founding Director, and later, Chairman of the Asean Oleochemicals Manufacturers Group (AOMG), and has been the Director of the Chemical Industry Club of the Federation of Thai Industries. He has wide-ranging experience in specialty downstream chemicals in the Asia Pacific.


He led Imperial Industrial Chemicals (Thailand) Co., Ltd., South East Asia’s founding oleochemicals manufacturer. He was then Managing Director of Thai Oleochemicals Co., Ltd. (later OMG (Thailand) Co., Ltd.) which was the first metal carboxylates factory in the region. He then worked with Thailand’s KSL Group to develop a bio-based infrastructure in South East Asia. He is on the Board of Directors of the Thai Bioplastics Industry Association (TBIA). He worked with BioAmber and later with Vinmar International, in evolving an Asian footprint for a portfolio of renewable chemicals. He is presently with KSL Green Innovation PCL, Bangkok, advising on bio-based chemicals and materials.

Ms. Henna Poikolainen

Henna Poikolainen is a Senior Consultant at Pöyry Management Consulting, specialised in bio-based chemicals, biofuels and new business development. She joined Pöyry in 2011 and has since supported clients in biomass sourcing, market entry, and partnering strategies; in supply, demand and cost analyses; and in technology reviews and pre-feasibility assessments. Ms. Poikolainen is based in Pöyry headquarters in Finland, but is constantly working in global projects from North America to Asia Pacific. She holds M.Sc. (Chem.Tech) degree from Aalto University (Finland) including business studies from the University of Hong Kong.

Ian Toh manages NatureWorks commercial operations and business development activities in Asia Pacific.  Based in Singapore, he has diverse experience in Engineering and Commodity plastics since his early career as an Engineer with DuPont, Application Development for G.E. Plastics, and subsequently held the positions of S.E.A. Regional Sales and Polypropylene (Homopolymer) Business Manager in SABIC before joining NatureWorks. 


He is also a Lean Six Sigma Black Belt holder and skilled in Supply Chain management.  Ian graduated from National University of Singapore with a Bachelors’ Degree in Chemical Engineering, and holds a MBA from Imperial College London.

Dr. Sunder is presently Director at Natur-Tec®- India, a Division of Northern Technologies International Corporation, USA. Dr. Jim Jem

Dr. K. Jim Jem received his Ph.D. and 2 Master degrees in biochemical engineering in the USA from Purdue Univ., Univ. of Minnesota, and Tufts Univ., and had worked 15 years there in engineering, biotech, and pharmaceutical companies such as Ratheon, Serono, Diversa, with excellent track record and multiple awards.


In 2000, he moved back to China to work for biotech and bio-plastic companies such as Cargill, NatureWorks PLA, and Purac Corbion. He is now the Greater China General Manager of Total Corbion PLA Ltd., and had served as a Visiting Professor for Chinese Univ. in HK, and Jiannan University plus several other universities in China.

Dr. Katsuya Ito holds a Ph.D. in Engineering of Science from the Kanazawa University in Japan. Currently, he is Senior Chief Researcher of Films Technology Center in Toyobo Co., Ltd. He contributes the R&D area of polymer processing, mainly, the extrusion and stretching of polymer materials, such as polyolefin, polyester and polyamide. Janice Li is President of JinHui ZhaoLong High Technology Co. Stefan is Business director Bio-Plastics for Total Corbion, a Dutch 50/50 JV between Total a fortune 500 fossil fuel producer and Corbion the global leader in Lactic Acid. Stefan is an expert on the global PLA (Poly-Lactic Acid) market concentrating his efforts on the fastest growing region, Asia.


He is a seasoned leader with a focus on business development and a diverse background in Chemicals and its related industries. Stefan worked for Ciba and BASF in leadership positions in pharmaceuticals, pigments plastics and lubricants where he gained a wealth of experience working in environmental protection, chemical production, quality control and sales and marketing. Before he joined Corbion several years ago, he lead a global business unit focused on customer specific products.


Stefan is a Swiss citizen and he worked for more than 14 years in Japan, Korea and China and the Middle East. He holds degrees in chemical engineering and an E-MBA from IMD in Switzerland. He is also a board member of KNPO a Swedish NGO for children.
