BIOBASED CHEM ASIA – Next Generation Biobased Building Blocks

“Elevance & Wimar has a joint venture to build a 180,000 tonne/year biorefinery in Surabaya, it is estimated to come on stream in 2011. It will produce biobased specialty chemicals such as 9-decenoic acid and esters, C18 dicarboxylic acids and esters, etc using natural oils and waste oils as feedstocks.”

“Glycos Biotechnologies is teaming up with Malaysian biotech hub BioXCell to build a 20,000 tonne/year biorefinery in Nusajaya, Iskandar, Malaysia which can convert glycerin, free fatty acids or palm fatty acid distillate to technical grade ethanol, isoprene and acetone. The plant can be expanded to 40,000 tonnes/year is expected to complete in early 2012.”

The biobased chemical industry is most certainly shaping up, with several start-ups achieving important milestones for commercialization, and charging ahead despite challenges in technological acceptance, integration including funding. The World Economic Forum predicts that by 2020, the biorefining sector can contribute USD230bn into the global economy, and biobased chemicals can increase their share of overall chemicals production to 9%.

In light to above development, CMT is happy to announce our very first Biobased Chem Asia – Next Generation Biobased Building Blocks conference, to be held on 14th – 15th April 2011 in Shanghai, China.

Together with the support of our panel of key industry experts, this inaugural meet aims to discuss and explore the different avenues and faucets of building a biobased economy, with an agenda covering:

  • Development of Next Genration Biobased Building Blocks – Lactic Acid, Succinc Acid, 3-Hydroxypropionic Acid, Ethanol, Levulinic Acid, etc
  • Update on Biobased Chemical Projects in Asia
  • Economics, Business Model and New Supply Chain Development of Biobased Chemical Production
  • Innovations in Conversion Technologies and Application Development in Personal/Home Care, Packaging, Automotive, Coatings, Solvent, Pulp & Paper
  • View of Leading Chemical Companies on the Bio Value Chain
  • Renewable Feedstock Sources and Availability

Coupled with excellent networking platform at the Biobased Chem Asia conference, this event offers timely opportunity to touch base with the most prominent and influential names in the industry,  as well as stay updated with ever changing technologies.

The line-up of topics and speakers are being firmed up and expected to be released soon. But to find out more about the full program now and how you can be part of this industry-setting event, drop me an email at grace@cmtsp.com.sg or contact me at +65 63469147 today.
