The presentation will provide a review of leading recycling technology developments that result in high quality rPET resins with near virgin quality, which allows for rPET use in a number of new and emerging markets from packaging to industrial applications. In packaging, the use of 100% rPET in juice and water bottles as well as thermoformed packs has recently become possible due to technology and equipment improvements. Brand owners are utilising rPET in packaging products in high levels to differentiate their products from a sustainable perspective. However, differences remain between recycled PET resins and virgin resin and this presentation will cover the material behaviour during processing as well as highlight impacts of rPET resin quality variation on product quality. The presentation will also provide examples of solutions that improve quality and highlight key design for recyclability criteria for PET bottle packaging.
