Asia is on the algae development fast track, as multinational companies make investments to cultivate, harvest and utilize algae for a multitude of commercial applications. A very significant development in Indonesia earlier this year was the $15 million capital funding that algae technology solutions company Heliae received from Salim Group's agribusiness company PT. PP London Sumatra Indonesia Tbk, through its subsidiary, Agri Investments Pte. Ltd. Heliae moved into Indonesia to develop and operate an R&D centre in Indonesia. The 20-acre development is scheduled to be completed in 2015. In an interview published in Algae Industry Magazine.com Mr. Daniel Simon, CEO of Heliae said, "Basically, we are going to build a low budget model of our Gilbert (AZ) site in Indonesia. Initially focused on strain development and validation of systems, we'll take what we've learned in Gilbert and move it out to Indonesia on a very specific basis. We are currently working on a partnership for our first commercial plant in the region."
