Abstract

Spirulina is nature's richest and most complete source of nutrition that no single source can offer. Its unique blend of vitamins, minerals, antioxidants, amino acids, and other nutrients is becoming a dietary necessity as modern diets are becoming ever more unbalanced. The Middle East region is a strong candidate to experience a leap in the production of Spirulina due to a number of environmental factors.  Starting a Spirulina Open farm in Jordan proved to be a challenge, where as a pioneering company in this field we had to overcome a number of obstacles: the experience of choosing the right strain and acclimating it to local environmental conditions underlined the difference between lab experimentation and large scale production; experimenting with cultural practices proved to be a main factor for economical success; and dealing with regulatory bodies and gaining acceptance in the market proved to be a major hurdle.
