In combating deforestation issues that have plagued the palm oil industry, the New Britain Palm Oil Limited (NBPOL) has teamed up with leading NGOs Greenpeace, WWF, Forest Peoples Programme, Rainforest Action Network and other palm oil companies to form the Palm Oil Innovation Group (POIG). This strong call-for-action and commitment came about during the peak of a haze crisis that shrouded Indonesia, Singapore and Malaysia - propelling the palm oil industry and deforestation acts into the national and regional spotlight.
Members of POIG are set to demonstrate socially and environmentally responsible palm oil production through innovations and strong implementations of RSPO standards.
That said, a new addition to this year's 5th Palm Oil Summit is Dr. Petra Meekers, Group Sustainability Manager of NBPOL, who will share POIG's action plans and further elaborate on "Critical innovations to strengthen commitment to Sustainable Palm Oil Production"
