While U.S.' shale gas is transforming the petrochemical industry, China is planning to utilise its coal reserves as an alternative route for olefins production. With the goal of reaching 64% of ethylene self-sufficiency in 2015, China is poise to lessen its dependency on import to meet its rapid demand growth. How sustainable and competitive will coal-to-olefin (CTO) projects be as compared to shale gas and other conventional feedstock? Is CTO the answer to China's demand?
Meanwhile, global demand growth for methanol is forecasted to increase at the rate of 8% annually to an unprecedented level of 137 million metric tons (MMT) by 2022. Being the key driver for demand growth, China's methanol consumption is expected to increase from 31 MMT in 2012 to 97 MMT by 2022, with demand growth rate of 12% per annum. Will China continue to expand methanol capacity to meet global demand? How will trade flow shift as U.S. takes advantage of its cheap gas?
For answers, join us at the 20th Asia Petrochemical Summit (APS) on 26-27 September 2013 in Singapore to gather first-hand information from experts on:
-
China - Expansion in Petchem and Feedstock Consideration
- Petchem consumption and projected growth
- Continued investment in propylene, ethylene and downstream sectors
- Sustainability and competitiveness of Coal to Olefins projects
