Can algae cut the costs of making complex proteins? For a long time, pharmaceutical companies have been making complex proteins at great cost and effort. And now with algae, the costs will be dropped dramatically.

Such complex drugs are currently produced from mammalian or bacterial cells. Algae is much less expensive to work with and the cells grow much more quickly -- doubling in number every 12 hours.
