Japan's Teijin Frontier Co., Ltd. has developed a technology that can recycle polyester products multiple times without deteriorating its quality - enabling a shift from petroleum polyester to recycled material. The technology known Eco Circle can convert used clothing into polyester fibre.
Although polyester recycling technology has been around for a while, it couldn't produce good quality fibre due to contaminants in bottles such as dyes and bleaches. Teijin's Eco Circle solves this problem by removing additives from polyester products, in a process called chemical recycling. Popular sportswear stores like Patagonia, Houdini, and Haglöfs have already started using Teijin's recycled polyester for its products.
