The global PET market has been confronted by crude-oil volatility, economic fluctuations and increasing awareness on the development and use of bio-based plastics. As world demand grows to 20,602.6 kilo tons in 2016, at a CAGR of 4.4% for the period from 2011 to 2016, Asia Pacific remains the largest consumer as well as fastest growing market for PET.
According to Euromonitor “Some 42% of global PET demand came from Asia Pacific, with this regional position to intensify further with 47% of the world’s consumer products in PET bottles set to be sold in Asia by 2019”
