Indonesia’s annual new and renewable energy target of US$1.37 billion is expected to exceed, according to its Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) Ministry. In addition to investments by state-owned PLN, the Indonesian government will allow IPPs to sell their power directly to customers, particularly in remote areas or regions that are not serviced by PLN. As Indonesia and other South East Asian countries embark on the renewable energy path unique challenges ranging from land access and acquisition to set up power plants, and securing funds to fuel these projects remain.
