Europe's demand for wood chips is rising due to the growing number of biomass power plants -

• Denmark's utility Hofor plans to source 1.2 million tonnes of woodchips for its BIO4 cogeneration plant that will enter commercial operations in 2019 and have capacities of 415MW of heat and 150MW of electricity.
  
  
• Norwegian utility Statkraft plans to make biofuel from wood chips and other waste. The company will produce biofuel from wood chips and other solid organic waste. Statkraft has formed a JV with Swedish forestry group Sodra to start a pilot plant in Tofte, south of Oslo.
  
  
• Danish utility Ørsted (former Dong Energy) has inaugurated the Skaerbaek Power Station near Fredericia after its conversion to using biomass as fuel. It plans to phase out all use of coal at its power stations by 2023.
