Myanmar needs substantial investments in its power sector to achieve its target of doubling electricity capacity by 2021. There was a major development in the power sector when the government allowed private investors in four gas-fired projects in the country. The projects - comprising several billion dollars of investment - would collectively add more than 3,000 MW of capacity to the national network. Meanwhile Myanmar also aims to increase electricity generated from renewable sources such as hydro and solar.
