Myanmar government has set a target of distributing LPG to a million households by 2020. "The government and private sector will work together to expand the LPG industry in Myanmar so that it is able to supply the quantities needed," U Win Khaing, Minister of Electricity & Energy said.
Myanmar has already witnessed an increase in investments in import and distribution capacity to meet the growing appetite for LPG, including:
- Elite Petrochemical inaugurated the first stage of its LPG import and distribution facility in Thilawa SEZ
- Puma Energy plans to begin LPG distribution for cooking to Myanmar around 2019.
- Asia AVA Gas formed a JV with Myanma Petrochemical Enterprise (MPE) for a LPG import, storage and distribution project in Myanmar.
- Parami Energy secured a US$4.9 million tender from Myanmar's Ministry of Electricity and Energy (MoEE) to build a jetty, terminal and storage facility at the Thanlyin refinery in the Yangon Region - that can handle between 8000-10,000 tonnes of LPG per month once ongoing upgrades are completed.
