Planning to grow in Stevia? Come to 2nd Stevia World Asia
to pinpoint investment opportunities & niches
Dear Executive,
A quick look at key developments in the Stevia sector conveys why Stevia is emerging as a Sweet Alternative Plantation Investment:
- Stevia is not a new crop: China and South America have been growing stevia commercially for the past 40 years. As a result, there is extensive R&D into yield improvements, and creating the highest quality stevia for growth.
- Stevia can grow in diverse climatic zones: While the herb's native locale of South America may make it appear somewhat exotic, it has proved to be quite adaptable and capable of being cultivated in both tropical and sub-tropical climate zones from India and southern Canada.
- Stevia can be intercropped with oilseed crops like Jatropha: In January 2010, publicly listed Jatropha grower JatOil announced they were intercropping Stevia with Jatropha in their jatropha plantations in Asia.
- Excellent market forecasts: Mintel predicts that total U.S. sales of stevia in tabletop sweeteners and foods, beverages, and other products could exceed $2 billion by the end of 2011, up from $21 million in 2008.
- Investors are already looking into Stevia: Institutional Investors recently invested over $65 million in publicly listed Stevia Producer, PureCircle.
- European Union expected to approve Stevia by March 2010, opening another major market for Stevia sweeteners and creating more opportunities for growth. This follows recent approvals in USA, Australia, Mexico & New Zealand.
