At 2nd Algae World Europe, Kyriakos Maniatis, Principal Administrator- Biofuels and Polygeneration, Energy Innovation and Technology, Directorate General for Energy & Transport, European Commission will be sharing views on this vital question.

In this key session, Mr. Maniatis will pinpoint Algae’s position within the EU Renewable Energy Directive, and highlight specific standards to be endorsed at EU level. He will also touch on the European Union’s CO2 policies and its application for the Algae sector.

The company successfully tested a method of producing algae by channelling smokestack carbon dioxide emissions through pools of algae and in December 2009, they signed a $10 million Joint Venture with one of China’s largest power companies to build a commercial algae farm. The farm, which is expected to be operational in 2010, will utilize carbon dioxide from the Penglai power station in China’s Shandong Province.
