"The world's first BioDME production plant will be inaugurated on September 9 in Piteå, Sweden. BioDME is primarily intended as a fuel for heavy vehicles and is produced from forest biomass feedstock. BioDME gives significant energy-efficiency and environmental benefits, particularly reduced greenhouse gas emissions, up to 95% compared to conventional diesel. The pilot plant is erected by Chemrec AB using methanol and DME synthesis technologies from Haldor Topsoe A/S as well as gasification technology from Chemrec AB."

"Metso has built a 7 t/d integrated bio-oil pilot plant utilizing saw dust and forest residues as feedstock, in co-operation with UPM, Fortum and the Technical Research Center of Finland. As part of the project, a novel integrated wood based bio-oil concept will be developed. The related concept covers the entire business chain, from feedstock purchase and pre-treatment to bio-oil production, transportation, storage and end use."
