Biofuel Prediction for 2010? Jatropha's Revival! JatrophaWorld 2010
spotlights latest developments…

Dear [name],

In January, Jim Lane, the editor of Biofuels Digest predicted that 2010 would be the year of Jatropha’s revival. And here’s what happened within a few weeks of his announcement:

  • "China National Offshore Oil Corp (CNOOC) has started making diesel from Jatropha in southern Hainan province. Sinopec designed & equipped the 60,000 tonnes/year Biorefinery. ”  ~ Reuters, 21/1/10
  • Daimler AG has started a new project for the cultivation of the biodiesel raw material jatropha in the south of India.  The seedlings for the first 100 hectares (250 acres) have been planted.~ Daimler Press Release, 4/2/10
  • Indian Oil Corporation and Ruchi Soya Industries announced a partnership to fund a $97 million project to  establish 125,000 acres (50,000 hectares) of jatropha plantations and a 31.5 Mgy (119 million liter) biodiesel plant.~ Biofuels Digest, 31/3/10
  • NASA scientists have launched a new experiment on the ISS (International Space Station) to find out if microgravity can help Jatropha Curcas plant cells grow faster.~ NASA Editorial, 3/4/10
  • General Motors and the US Department of Energy (DOE) have formalized a five-year partnership with India’s Central Salt & Marine Chemicals Research Institute to develop jatropha as a sustainable biofuel energy crop.~ GM Press Release, 12/4/10

YES! Big Oil and Industrial companies are back in the Jatropha scene along with DOE and NASA!

This positive development, coupled with encouragement from the Jatropha community is why JatrophaWorld will be back in 2010. With the theme, Jatropha Commercialization Challenge – Charting the Right Way Forward, JatrophaWorld 2010 once again promises an enriching experience.
