Abstract

Developments in de-inking of post-industrial films

This presentation highlights the post-industrial deinking process developed and, first plant, delivered by Sortology/Sorema. In parallel to the process development, an application to EFSA was made for de-inking post-industrial films to food grade. Although un-successful, the conclusions of the technical assessment are very relevant to many recycling plans. We will examine these conclusions and review how they might be addressed to allow full food grade recycling of printed films. We also look briefly at a process variation of the deinking process that allows large amounts of natural films to be recovered from mixed printed post-consumer films.
