Webinar Details:
COVID-19 pandemic has slowed construction activities in many countries, leading to an overcapacity of cement.
In Indonesia, the pandemic has delayed government infrastructure and private construction projects. Producers are looking at other opportunities to tap sales as home renovation is on the rise during this pandemic, raising demand for bag cement.
While in the Philippines, the government has approved the proposed PHP1.1 trillion allocation for public infrastructure next year. This is expected to support the completion of a number of major flagship projects, under the BBB programme, over the next two years.
Thailand cement industry were hit by coronavirus-related lockdown measures, however, SCG Cement division's earnings benefitted from efficiency improvements and lower energy prices.
In Vietnam, under the new cement industry development strategy, all plants with a capacity under 0.9Mt/yr will be forced to improve their productivity, product quality, energy efficiency and, crucially, environmental performance by 2025.
Once countries begin to fully reopen post-pandemic, consumption of cement and concrete is expected to gradually recover, driven by economic growth, urbanization, and population growth. How should cement companies position to take advantage of the post-pandemic recovery? Are digitalization & green cement technology adoption a priority moving forward?
