Haiwan Chemical is building a grassroots 320,000 tons per annum phenol/acetone plant in Dongjiakou Industrial Zone, Qingdao, Shandong Province in China.
The new phenol and acetone plant will use KBR’s phenol and acetone technology for the upcoming plant.
Besides providing technical and training services to the new plant, KBR is also expected to provide basic engineering design (LBED).

Besides this new contract, KBR has also secured a maintenance alliance programme (MAP) contract – whereby KBR will provide long-term maintenance services to Sadara Chemical, a joint venture (JV) of Saudi Aramco and Dow Chemical.
The Sadara project is said to be the largest chemical complex built in a single phase, with 26 manufacturing plants, with a total investment of $20bn.
