Cmikri to build new cement plant in Kribi industrial port complex

Posted on : 25 Nov, 2019

Cameroon’s cement producer Cimenterie industrielle de Kribi (Cmikri) has signed an MoU with Chinese consortium China National Building Material Co. Sinoma/Afcham for a new cement plant to be built in the Kribi industrial port complex.

The annual distribution capacity of the new plant is expected to be 500,000 tons, which will be extensible to 1.5 million tons.

Expected to start construction in August 2020, the plant is likely to start production by February 2022.

To be built at a cost of $60 million (close to XAF35.5 billion), the cement plant has already got an approved plot inside the 30 ha Kribi port.

The plant requires an 18,000 tons silo for clinker and another of 4,000 tons for cement as well as sanitary and electrical installations.

The project is supported by the Investment Promotion Agency, the Port of Kribi and the Ministry of Mines.

Apart from Cmikri, Cameroon’s Engineering construction manufacturing and trading is planning to build a 500,000 tons cement plant in Kribi.
