PepsiCo to reduce virgin plastic content, concentrates on biobased plastics

PepsiCo aims to reduce 35% of virgin plastic content across its beverage portfolio by 2025.  The company has Issued $1 billion in green bonds to fund its sustainability initiatives that is in tune with the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDG).
 
The proceeds of the green bond is expected to not only reach PepsiCo’s target of reducing virgin plastics, but also invest in developing packaging that includes bio-based PET bottles and compostable and biodegradable snacks flex films. Further the funds are expected to fund projects that purchase compostable, biodegradable and/or recyclable material for use in product packaging.
 
PepsiCo aims to reduce plastics waste and use more recycled plastics in packaging its beverage brands such as LIFEWTR, bubly and Aquafina. Through its SodaStream business, an estimated 67 billion plastic bottles will be avoided through 2025.
