Simon has 18 years of experience analysing and understanding commodity markets. He is a director of Commoditia, an advisory business based in Singapore focussed on supporting investors in, and traders and processors of South East Asian commodities.

Previously, as a Vice President of Invenio, part of Olam International, Mr Bentley led the research for a macro commodity fund trading agricultural commodity futures using fundamental models. Before this, and as a Director of LMC International, Mr Bentley led for many years a team advising multinational agribusinesses, energy and chemical companies, as well as governments, on all aspects of carbohydrate and protein markets. Through many different assignments he has developed a deep understanding of the fundamental structural factors underpinning agricultural commodity prices, costs, trade and production, which he uses to help clients position themselves in the face of changing market conditions.

Mr Bentley is a graduate of Trinity College, Oxford University and the London School of Economics

A civil engineering graduate of the US Coast Guard Academy, Robert practiced in the field of public works and city engineering for 30 years, primarily in the San Francisco Bay Area of California. Robert retired from municipal service as the Public Works Director/City Engineer of the City of San Carlos, California in 2011.  He went on to earn technical certificates in water and wastewater treatment, work as a certified water treatment plant operator, and complete a Master’s of Science in Civil Engineering from Kansas State University.  He researched how anaerobic biotechnology could be used as for pretreatment of agro-industrial wastes, generating biogas and improving water quality.  Robert is a registered professional engineer in California and Kansas.

Sustainable starch based polymers & opportunities in Asia

Nopadol Suanprasert received his B.Eng. in Industrial Engineering from the University of New South Wales, Sydney, Australia and an MBA from McGill University, Montreal, Canada. He worked in Australia for Unilever Australia Pty.,Ltd. Then he emigrated to Canada where he worked for Nortel Canada. After many years in Canada he returned to Thailand, his home country. In Thailand, he worked for industries and development finances. Among them were the UK’s Commonwealth Development Corporation, the Canadian International Development Agency. His career path changed when Thailand was building the second Bangkok international airport. He was appointed by the Ministry of Transport to be the Executive Vice President of the state enterprise (NBIA) that constructed the airport until completion. Then his career changed for the second time when the Thai government implemented a large scale project to grow rubber in the north and northeastern region of Thailand. He was appointed by the Ministry of Agricultures to be the Director General of the state enterprise (ORRAF) that implement the project. This was where he learnt about  bioplastics and conducted field applications with rubber planting. The rubber expansion project put Thailand’s natural rubber as the biggest producer. Natural rubber is Thailand’s first product champion.
After finishing his term at the state enterprise, he started Global Biopolymers to do business in bioplastics. He envisages that bioeconomy, in particular, bioplastics will be Thailand’s second  product champion following natural rubber.

Dr. Werawat Lertwanawatana is currently the CEO of SMS Corporation where value is created from tapioca starch through knowledge and dedication of human resources. He has been in the modified starch industry with Siam Modified Starch (SMS) since 1987. He has managed intense research activities from concept into commercialization for both food and non-food starch applications. Dr. Werawat has received his Ph.D. in Organic Chemistry at the University of Wales, Cardiff, UK after his B.Sc. (Honour) in chemistry in Thailand. He was an associate professor in Chemistry at Ramkamhaeng University in Thailand.
