He has been instrumental in designing numerous modern recycling plants and has achieved a number of patented recycling breakthroughs. He also provides support to organisations such as the Earth Champions Foundation, Plastics Oceans, PEW Foundation Trust on the Project “Stopping Ocean Plastics” and is the founder of NEXTLOOPP, the multi-client project aimed at closing the loop on food-grade PP.

Martin has remarkable experience in sustainability, legislation and environmental policy. In his previous six year tenure at the producer compliance scheme company Comply Direct  he was very much responsible for delivering consultancy on the packaging, waste electricals, recycling, batteries, carbon, ESG and net-zero to a diverse member portfolio.

Hyde, an expert in the circular economy has an intricate understanding of policy changes such as Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR), Deposit Return Schemes (DRS) and the UK Plastic Tax.

In his new capacity, Hyde will  lead Alupro’s government engagement programme, dispense technical advice across a breadth of sustainability challenges, alongside consulting with members and partners throughout the aluminium value chain on new recycling initiatives.

Mr Chandler currently works as a Senior Scientific Officer in the policy area of food contact materials at the Food Standards Agency in London. Tim joined the team in September 2017 as functional manager to the food contact material policy area. He joined the Food Standards Agency in 2010, having held previous roles within foodborne disease control policy and chemical risk assessment. His academic qualifications include a BSc (hons) in Biochemistry with Medical Biosciences and an MSc in Environmental Technology. He is also a member of the Institute of Food Science and Technology

For her master thesis she investigated DNA double strand breaks in yeast and was awarded with the Austrian Honorary State Price. Since beginning of 2018 she is working on the development and validation of methods for the safety assessment of unidentified substances in food packaging migrates at the Austrian Research Institute (OFI).

Sean’s responsibilities include coordinating and providing regulatory review of food contact notifications, pre-notification consultations, pre-market inquiries, and post-market reviews. Additionally, he coordinates and provides regulatory review for requests of letters of no objection for plastic recycling processes. He has a B.S. and a Ph.D. in chemistry.

Claire is the ‘Packaging Migration and Mass Spectrometry Solutions’ Team Manager, within the Food Quality and Safety Programme at Fera Science Ltd. She is responsible for the management of a team of diverse and experienced chemists who work together to provide customers with bespoke solutions to their Food Contact Material (FCM) enquiries. The team’s areas of expertise include method development and validation as well as non-targeted high resolution mass spectrometry analysis for the determination of non-intentionally added substances (NIAS) in FCMs. Recently the team have been involved in the analysis of recycled materials (in particular recycled PET) for use as FCMs.
Claire trained as a chemist and has 20 years experience in analytical chemistry from across various sectors, in particular gas chromatography and mass spectrometry techniques and food packaging analysis.
Claire is also the Fera lead for the UK National Reference Laboratory (NRL) for FCMs.

Carsten founded RITTEC and is leading an interdisciplinary team that develops with several institutions and research partners solutions for high quality PET recycling of mixed packaging waste. A demonstration plant is being set up and goes to operation in the greater Braunschweig area in Germany in the middle of 2022. In 2024 a turnkey plant for the monomer recycling of 20,000 t/y PET input material is to be built and operated in cooperation with various stakeholders along the end-of-life value chain to realise circularity for PET monomers.

Pascal Wüst studied Mechanical Engineering and Plastic Processing Technology at RWTH Aachen University.
In 2015 he started his professional career as a Technical Service Engineer at Mitsui Chemicals Europe GmbH. In this position, he has been in charge of technical service and application development of adhesive resins used in multilayer structures, mostly in extruded packaging applications.
As the next step in his career, Pascal joined Borealis AG in February 2020 where he is contributing as an Application Development Engineer. He is active in the market are of consumer products with a focus on injection moulding but also responsible for fibre spinning as well as foaming.

With an ingrained interest in sustainability and the environment, Charlotte has quickly become invested in the waste and packaging sector. Working alongside Chris Smith, as part of the sustainable packaging consultancy team, she is involved with the provision of a number of consultancy services from Plastic Tax Impact Assessments, Extended Producer Responsibility guidance to life cycle and packaging carbon foot printing analysis.

Dr Eleni Iacovidou (Brunel) is Lecturer in Environmental Management at Brunel University London, leading teaching on environmental governance, management and sustainable development. Her research work focuses on holistic and integrated sustainability assessments of resources and waste management systems using her co-developed systems-based approach called Complex Value Optimisation for Resource Recovery (CVORR). The outputs of her research work are aimed at supporting policy, and decision-making processes through the design of strategies and tools that integrate sustainability into radical and innovative interventions. She has been PI and Co-I in many international and national research projects, funded by the European Commission, NERC, Innovate UK, and governmental bodies. She is a chemist in the background, with expertise in environmental engineering and environmental management research following studies at the Department of Chemistry, University of Crete and the Centre for Environmental Policy, Imperial College London.

Dr Loula is an Environmental Engineer with expertise in methods of solid waste management and analytical techniques of waste characterisation. Currently, she is a research fellow at Brunel University London with a focus on systematic evidence mapping, qualitative and/or quantitative sustainability assessments of resources and waste management systems across their lifecycle. She has research experience on plastic packaging systems including challenges and trade-offs related to the transition towards circular economy, such as bioplastics applications, safety implications from chemical perspective and stakeholder analysis.

Dr Loula Gerasimidou holds a PhD in Civil Engineering from the University of Leeds. His doctoral work focused on the quality assurance of solid recovered fuel destined to waste-to-energy processes including machine learning modelling, thermal analysis of solid waste, and advanced statistical techniques.
