Eugene Wang grew up immersed in the vegetarian food business. For 20 + years his family has led the way in quality manufacturing of vegetarian food and distributing it throughout Asia and in North America. Since 2011, his vision for launching the first Plant-Based Seafood Alternative has manifested into a viable category innovation lauded by the press and social media thought leaders, as well as natural trade industry leaders. Eugene started his career in 1995, at a management consulting firm in New York City, shortly after earning his MBA from Columbia University, Columbia Business School, New York.

Tomas is a Material Engineer from the Swiss Institute of Technology (EPFL). During his studies, he encountered the concept of alternative proteins and directly recognized it could be part of the solution to answer the climate and health challenges we face.

After an internship at Planted Foods, he continued exploring his interest at EPFL. He conceived the idea of producing creamy fat using yeast. He is now developing this solution further at Cultivated Biosciences

He is a director of Commoditia, an advisory business based in Singapore focussed on supporting investors in, and traders and processors of South East Asian commodities.

Previously, as a Vice President of Invenio, part of Olam International, Mr Bentley led the research for a macro commodity fund trading agricultural commodity futures using fundamental models. Before this, and as a Director of LMC International, Mr Bentley led for many years a team advising multinational agribusinesses, energy and chemical companies, as well as governments, on all aspects of carbohydrate and protein markets. Through many different assignments he has developed a deep understanding of the fundamental structural factors underpinning agricultural commodity prices, costs, trade and production, which he uses to help clients position themselves in the face of changing market conditions.

Mr Bentley is a graduate of Trinity College, Oxford University and the London School of Economics.

Gijs van Elst earned a Bachelor of Science in 2004 and started his working career at the Dutch publicly listed company B&S as sales responsible for the Asian market. In 2008 he moved to Meelunie, where he has worked since in various positions. In 2013 he moved to Singapore to open a branch office looking after South East Asia & Oceania. In his current operations he is managing the worldwide activities in organic starches and proteins from the company’s headquarters back in Amsterdam. Seven years ago, Meelunie started an organic tapioca project in Laos and Cambodia together with a Thai partner which has become pivotal in the company’s strategy to become a world leading organic starch and protein supplier. Gijs’ interest is in finding suitable new ingredients for meat replacers, actively working with farmers to grow and process several pulses, in particular yellow pea, fava and mung bean. Gijs is flexitarian and strong supporter of new plant-based alternatives.

Pablo Pena is Business Development Manager at Ynsect Human Nutrition & Health, a French-Owned, Dutch Agri-tech leader producing sustainable and nutritional ingredients for the food industry from food-grade farmed insects.

YHN&H is the first to realize production of insect-based food ingredients on a large scale that are easily accessible and applicable for the current food market.

One of Pablo Pena’s goals is the international deployment of the world’s first insect-based, functional ingredient range, AdalbaPro. AdalbaPro ingredients are made from the Alphitobius diaperinus (also known as the buffalo beetle). Besides digestible protein, the ingredients also contain essential nutrients like vitamins such as B12, minerals, fibers and healthy fats. The high-quality food ingredients can add value to applications such as sports nutrition, meat (alternatives), pasta, baked goods and many more.

Pena: “In our ambition to solve global challenges of the food industry, our approach is realistic, simple but most of all, effective. We bridge the gap in consumer acceptance by producing recognizable and functional ingredients for the food industry, for every day recipes.”

At age 24, he started his career at Jimmy Joy, a Dutch Food Start-Up producing nutritionally full meals in powdered form as R&D manager after graduating as an MSc Food Technologist. After several years he moved onto more commercial activities within the food sector, including international sales and business development . In 2021 he started at YHN&H as Business Development Manager, in charge of further expanding Ynsect’s Food Business Unit’s commercial reach.
