He is also the Secretary General of Aticelca, the Italian association of the paper industry technicians and the Country Manager of Two Sides in Italy. In its role he is also Member of the Board of few organizations related to the paper industry (Conlegno - Monitoring Organisation for the EU timber regulation, of Eucepa – the European association of the paper technicians, Istituto Italiano Imballaggio -Italian Packaging Association and AFC – Italian association for vocational education in the paper industry). He took part and/or chaired few industry working groups and committees at National, European and International level related to environment, climate, circular economy, food contact, forestry, research &development and technical standardisation. He is also author of publications and guidelines for the paper industry.

He is a Senior Application Research Scientist at Eastman. His current research focuses on fundamental research to develop structure-property relationship and then design new coating products or new applications.  His current project is developing bio-based and biodegradable polymers for packaging/food contact applications, such as extrusion paper coating, blown film extrusion, and casting film.

He has been working for Innovhub-Pulp and Paper Area since 2004 and he's responsible of the paper production and testing laboratory since 2019. His main technical expertise regards paper recycling and ecodesign of paper based products for recyclability, enhancing circularity and waste reduction. He takes part to technical Working Groups with Industry Associations and stakeholders. He is a member of CEN-TC172-WG2 (Paper and Board for recycling) and UNI TC 008 “paper products”. He has been involved in different research projects at national and European level, with strong cooperation with Universities and Research Centres.

DELSCI is exclusively developing next-generation packaging solutions for delfort, a global speciality paper manufacturing & printing group. Together with a team of scientists and product developers, DELSCI’s mission is to reinvent paper for true sustainable barrier packaging applications. Herwig also campaigns for agile processes, open collaborations and a design thinking mind-set in the industry.

 

Before working in the paper & packaging industry, Herwig was co-founder of an engineering and prototyping company and managed it from 2016-2019. From 2008 – 2016 he was Head of Business Development and Director Business Unit for lightweight composite applications at a global player in the textile industry (Teufelberger) and from 2001 – 2008 he was responsible for Sales and Business Development in the Asia/Pacific region for a global semiconductor equipment company (EV Group).

 

Herwig holds a master degree in technical physics from the University in Graz/Austria and an MBA from the University of Krems/Austria. Herwig is a certified Agile Project Manager and Design Thinking Expert.

Dr. Cools has graduated from Ghent University, obtaining a Masters’ degree in Chemistry in 2013. In 2017 he obtained his PhD in Applied Physics Engineering which focused on non-thermal Plasma coatings for Tissue engineering. Since 2019 he started working as a research engineer for the flexible packaging manufacturer Amcor, focusing on topics revolving around Sustainibility. Since 1.5 years he is coordinating amcor’s global fiber packaging developments including the development and Launch of LifeSpan Performance Paper.

After graduating, he joined the Sappi team to coordinate production teams and balance the system chemistry following significant process changes. After several years, he transferred his activities to the fibrillated cellulose team to maximize business potential by utilizing his fundamental understanding of fibers.

Larry Hutchinson began his career in the paper industry in 1979 and holds degrees in Chemical Engineering and Pulp & Paper Science from the University of Maine. He has a diverse background in manufacturing, technical consulting, market and technology development across a broad range of packaging grades.

With 25 years in global roles, 15 years living in Asia, Larry has a broad perspective on the global packaging market.  In his current role, he is responsible for global market development for Solenis’ consumer packaging portfolio, globalization of Solenis’ ecological barriers technology acquired with Topchim in March 2018, and the development of new technology to meet the needs of molded fiber producers.

Dr. Stanislav Solovyov is a Polymer and Materials Scientist with 24 years of industrial experience in barrier materials development for food and beverage packaging. He has worked on various aspects of materials and functional additives development from polymerization to converting, designing material solutions for barrier packaging applications in polymeric films, functional composites, and water-based coatings. Dr. Solovyov has authored multiple scientific papers and patents in the field of active and passive barrier packaging. In his current role at Mantrose he is working on development of sustainable, environmentally responsible VerdeCoat® barrier coatings and their application for paper, paperboard, and molded fiber-based food packaging.
