María Fernanda Aparicio Appendini is a Research Analyst at Wood Mackenzie in the chemicals sector. Part of the PET/RPET and Polyolefins/Recycled Polyolefins teams, she is dedicated to the analysis of regional market dynamics through insights, reports and observations.  

Her work not only contributes to a comprehensive view of the polyester and polyolefins value chain but also supports assessments of sustainability areas within the circular economy. Recently, she has investigated the development of the plastics industry caused by the future demand for recycled materials, national-level legislation and the progress of infrastructure to support and promote future recycling markets.

María Fernanda joined Wood Mackenzie in May 2023 as part of the GAT (Global Analyst Team) team and is based in Mexico City. Before joining Wood Mackenzie, he worked at Grupo Bimbo in the Carbon-Neutral area, where she focused on the acquisition and management of renewable energy. María has a bachelor's degree in Physical Engineering from the Universidad Iberoamericana Mexico City, with recognition for academic excellence and a talent scholarship.

Forma parte de los equipos de PET/RPET y Poliolefinas/Poliolefinas recicladas, en donde se dedica al análisis de la dinámica regional de los mercados a través de insights, reportes y observaciones.  

 Su labor no solo contribuye a una visión integral de la cadena de valor del poliéster y las poliolefinas, sino que también apoya las evaluaciones de las áreas de sostenibilidad dentro de la economía cirular. Recientemente, ha investigado el desarrollo de la industria del plástico, causado por la demanda futura de materiales reciclados, las legislaciones a nivel nacional y el progreso de la infraestructura para respaldar y promover los futuros mercados del reciclaje.

María Fernanda se unió a Wood Mackenzie en mayo 2023 como parte del equipo del GAT (Global Analyst Team) y está basada en la Ciudad de México. Antes de pertenecer a Wood Mackenzie, trabajó en Grupo Bimbo en el área de Carbono Neutral, en donde se centró en la adquisición y gestión de energía renovable. María tiene una licenciatura en Ingeniería Física de la Universidad Iberoamericana Ciudad de México, con reconocimientos por excelencia académica y beca al talento.

Humberto Quiroz is an esteemed leader with over 21 years of experience, focusing on sustainability within the plastic industry. He currently serves as the Regional Director of Procurement, Sustainability, and Marketing at ALPLA for Mexico, Central America, and the Caribbean. As Vice President of ANIPAC’s Recycling Section and a member of ANIQ’s Plastic Industry Commission, he has championed sustainable practices. Under his leadership, ALPLA has embraced recycled resins and circular economy projects, opening collection centers and recycling plants, showcasing his commitment to environmental impact. Previously, he enhanced his expertise in  supply chain and sustainability at Grupo DANONE and Schneider Electric.

Scott Munguía is a Chemical Engineer graduated from Tec de Monterrey . He was recognized as Innovator of the Year in Mexico in 2015 by MIT Review. His notable contributions to the environment include his honorary participation in the signing of the Paris Agreements during COP21. Additionally, he is the author of several patents in the field of bioplastics. As the founder of BIOFASE, a company that currently operates two production plants in Mexico, Scott has taken his vision to an international level, exporting to 20 countries positioning as a leader in bioplastics production in Mexico.

Adriana Sánchez Cantinca has a Master in Business Administration. She has 8 years of experience in Business areas. She is currently the business manager in IDRG, responsible for supply chain, trade, commercial area, quality control and business development.

Ignacio Méndez is a professional engineer with more than 15 years of experience in packaging and product development, working within FMCG industry for personal care, beauty, foods, and laundry / home care divisions. He has been part of research and development leading innovation within leader market brands and global companies such as Unilever, L’Oréal, and Henkel. Passionate about sustainability, packaging technologies and Innovation. During the last years working as sustainability leader aligned with global FMCG strategy contributing to the implementation of impactful circular packaging initiatives within LatAm Market.

Juan Francisco Galvan Acosta, a seasoned professional in the field of Chemical Engineering and Business Management, is the founder and President of Direct Pack Recycling. He obtained his MBA from the University of Phoenix, Arizona.

He is in the plastics industry for more than 30 years with flexible, thermoformed packaging, extrusion and PET Recycling/washing plants, on early stages of PCR PET the development of Flake washing suppliers for extrusion in Mexico, establishing standards in the industry, then equipment development, start-up and operational improvements, developing PET PCR product lines for high-volume customers in Mexico and the USA.

In Business Management; building the converting and material utilization base to make PCR PET profitable and resource efficient with the correct capital expenditure in place. Regarding the Recycling Washing plants, construction of 6 facilities, last ones with proprietary developments to obtain a “super clean” flake.Development of the technical capability to use very high contents of post-consumer trays, maintaining the “Super clean” quality with high yields in raw material usage. He has also developed and secured a consistence base of clam bails suppliers in the US .plus Tray to tray technology development.

Mayra Hernandez, born in Mexico City and trained as a Lawyer for more than 20 years, has amassed an extensive experience in top multinational companies, such as GEPP (the former Pepsi Bottling Group) and Whirlpool, as well as in public institutions both as a public servant or consultant, particularly within the Federal Chamber of Deputies and Mexico City´s Congress, in matters related to lobbying, communications, marketing, compliance, regulations, standards, government and public relations. Currently, she works as Director of Government and Regulatory Affairs in ECOCE, a Non-profit civil association promoting recycling.

Luz Elena Aristizábal Alviar is the Familia Foundation Lead. She is an Environmental Engineer with a  Master of Arts in Environmental Legislation, Master of Science in Environmental Management. She has 15 years of experience in the circular economy and sustainability sector, leading process to understand and increase recyclable materials in the supply chain, working with industries, governments and waste pickers in the formalized process in Colombia and Latin America

Since it was founded in 1983, EREMA has specialised in the development and production of plastics recycling systems and technologies for the plastics processing in-dustry.

Ederson Sotini is responsible for technical sales and customer care in the applica-tion field of PET recycling plants in Latin America.

He holds a degree in Polymer Engineering from FATEC / SP, one in Commercial Management from SENAC / SP and an MBA in International Business. He has been operating in the plastics market for over 18 years, 8 of them dedicated to recycling.

Jimena Caballero is a Sustainability Executive at Coca-Cola FEMSA. She holds a degree in Sustainable Development Engineering from Tecnológico de Monterrey and gained international experience at Universidad Politécnica de Madrid. Her background includes participating in projects on circular economy and sustainable sourcing within the food and beverage industry, as well as research, analysis, and advocacy on global climate commitments within the Civil Society.

Octavio Victal has 19 years of PET recycling industry experience. He is the CEO and co-founder of Green Impact Plastics SA de CV, a unique operation located in Cd. Juarez, Chihuahua, designed and engineered by himself and his brother Juan Pablo to process PET thermoform containers. Green Impact Plastics is the first of several plants that Victal will build to help divert this material that currently goes to landfills and that represents over 1.6 billion lbs. annually in the US and Canada and around 240 million lbs. in the state of CA. Octavio has for over 10 years actively participated in trade associations including APR and NAPCOR and has been recognized in several industry publications as a PET recycling entrepreneur set to solve hard to recycle streams like thermoform containers.

Esperanza Martinez - LAE graduated by IPN, Master in NLP, 2nd professional career in Law - in process by UNAM, certified in 2024 by INSEAD Europe in Strategic Leadership Program; and with 25 years of career in the Plastics Industry and in conjunction with the Embassy of Finland, firm conviction on the RECYCLING of POST CONSUMED Plastics. current manufacturer of rPS cups and cutlery.

Andres Quiroga Giraldo graduated as a Mechanical Engineer specialized in Marketing Management, with proven skills and achievements in the areas of Strategic Vision, Communication, Desing Thinking, Organization and Time Management, Marketing, Sales and Innovation. He is leading the Connectivity & Products Business in Colombia, Central America & Caribbean Region for SGS.

Santiago García was born in Mexico City. He holds a degree in Chemical Engineering from UNAM and was a fellow in Great Britain. He worked for 10 years in the chemical and metallurgical industry at Industrias Peñoles in Mexico and New York. In 1989, he initiated a project for one of the first PET packaging manufacturing companies in Mexico and served as the Director of Continental PET Technologies for Latin America until 2001. In 1995, he led the group that formed APREPET A.C., the first association of the PET packaging production chain, and served as its first president. From 2002 to 2008, he served as General Manager of APREPET A.C. From 2009 to 2017, he worked as a Senior Consultant at Wood Mackenzie in Great Britain. He also served as a technical advisor at Inboplast between 2018 and 2019. Currently, he is the Coordinator of the Recyclers Committee at Ecoce A.C. and a member of the communication committee at the APR (Association of Plastics Recyclers.
