5. KÜRESEL Klor-Vinil (PVC) PAZARLARI KONFERANSI İSTANBUL

Identifying bright spots in global PVC markets!

"Indian polyolefin and polyvinyl chloride (PVC) demand expanded by 11-30% in April-Dec 2009 - the strongest pace in the last few years - on the back of packaging and infrastructure sectors with the trend expected to continue in 2010, producers said on Friday. PVC demand was estimated to have risen by 30% to around 1.35m tonnes on strong sales in the pipes segment, the biggest end-use sector for PVC." 12/2/10, icis

"Russian-owned petrochemicals manufacturer Karpatneftekhim will finally launch its planned Ukraine PVC production plant in November this year.....Despite the regional economic slowdown, vinyl demand is continuing to grow in the Ukraine and Russia, driven by the construction sector" 8/410, www.prw.com

"High consumption growth in populous nations such as China and India will make Asia the major driver of global PVC consumption growth....growth in Mexico and a recovery in the United States demand will support future growth rates in North America...Growth in Eastern Europe and the Middle East is running at very high rates due to oil wealth, while demand in South America will benefit from high GDP growth and infrastructure development".
Chemsystms PPE Program, VInyls, Jan 2010

"Feedstock costs put upward pressure on US PVC in Egypt and Turkey.." 14/3/10,alibaba.com

With Asian led revival of global economy, the prospects for PVC looks highly positive. Accounting for over 50% of PVC output, housing sector has been the driving force behind the PVC market surge. Improving margins is yet to be complemented by steady demand due to regional volatilities. In this scenario which region has the potential to drive PVC growth and what exactly are the roadblocks for the sector? What are the chances for market recovery in the west? What is driving the PVC market in emerging economies?

The projections for PVC markets from World Cup 2014 & Olympic 2016 seem to be driving the future plans of PVC industry in Brazil. Will the promise of PVC substitutes be realized?

With consumer demanding more environmentally friendly product, will PVC demand be substituted by other "green" products & how big is the market for "green" PVC?

This will be a good opportunity for compounders and resin suppliers alike to understand their market share to determine their strategy going forward.

After a tumultuous 2009, the global PVC market looks set to rebound in 2010. Will market conditions be constructive?

A recent ChemOrbis editorial pointed out that, “The Asian PVC market has been rising for the past four months, inevitably pulling the Mediterranean markets along with it as import prices to the region have risen in response to the bullishness in Asia.

The outlook in North America however tells a different story. Plastics News.com reported that “Suspension PVC prices are up an average of 5 cents per pound in North America since Jan. 1... has PVC buyers on edge...But feedstock pressures from ethylene, along with markets tightened by maintenance turnarounds and increased export levels, are changing the rules of the PVC game in early 2010.

In Europe, Mediterranean PVC producers are looking forward to a "3-4% overall growth in 2010”, but according to a recent ICIS report, “outlook is varied according to region and construction in the UK and Iberia are among the worst hit in Europe... The strongest recovery is reported to be in Central and Eastern Europe.

The upcoming 5th Global Chlor-Vinyl Markets conference, which meets in Istanbul on 10-11 June 2010, will offer some much needed clarity on the shifts on trade, production and demand across the Global PVC markets from traditional markets in Europe and USA to upcoming markets including Croatia, Russia, Ukraine, Turkey, Middle East, Asia, Africa & Brazil.

The conference will also provide updates on:

  • World economic situation & outlook for 2010/11
  • EDC-VCM-PVC supply outlook & challenges
  • Chlor-alkali market outlook
  • Changing trade patterns & freight rates projection
  • Key applications & growth prospect
