South Asia is one of the fastest growing coatings markets in the world and the region is expected to witness growth in the future.
Given such positive trends, Denmark's Hempel Paints recently announced its second manufacturing plant in Nashik, India. Hempel has already invested 3 million euros in the new plant and plans investment of another 2 million euros in the second phase. The new facility has a production capacity of 10 million liters per year.
The second phase of the plant is expected to be commissioned in the next 2 years. After which, the total capacity of the new plant will increase by 3 million liters.
The new facility joins the already existing 2 million liter plant in Nashik.
Hempel plans to use the new factory to export to the neighboring countries of Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, the Maldives and Nepal. The new factory will produce paint for marine and protective coating segments.
Hempel already has a good market share in India. While it has already captured over 20% of the country's marine coatings segment, it has more than 12% stake in the protective coatings segment - the latter estimated to be worth approximately Rs. 1,250 crore, and the former the about Rs. 250 crore.
The Danish company aims to double its turnover in the next 3 years' time.
