Capturing the Eco Conscious Consumer with the Latest Green Formulations
"P & G will access newly launched sustainability scorecard for their suppliers. The new scorecard will assess P&G suppliers' environmental footprint and will measure energy use, water use, waste disposal and greenhouse gas emissions on a year-to-year basis." ~ [source: ICIS Green Chemical, May 12, 2010]
A significant shift to "green & natural" products is taking place in global consumer demand pattern. The market for "green" solutions in the home and personal care segment is growing rapidly, as customers are increasingly concerned with the environmental impact and safety of the products they buy. However, what does it mean to be "green"? Are you keeping an eye on the growing 'natural' movement in the surfactant markets?
With China implementing new cosmetic regulations on April 1, which requiring foreign companies to register new materials or ingredients in products imported into China is causing confusing and placing new burdens on companies. Shanghai Jahwa United Co Ltd will share some guidelines for what industry can do to plan and prepare for product launches in China.
CMT's 10th Asia Surfactants Personal Care and Home Care Markets conference gathers the leading regional industry players to address pertinent issues impacting the surfactants industry, latest trend in China's personal care and homecare industry and the potential for surfactant and other raw material suppliers.
"Cognis announced that it has officially opened its new production facility for its APG® surfactants at its site in Jinshan, China. The company claims to be the world's largest supplier of the original APG® surfactant, which is made from vegetable oil or starch."~ [source: ICIS Green Chemical, May, 27, 2010]
"BASF is counting on Chinese demand for nonionic surfactants, for example, will depend largely on the speed at which China moves away from phosphate-based detergents and towards more modern, environmentally-friendly detergents. The nonionic surfactants plant will be China's first."~ [source: ICIS, April 26, 2010]
New facilities opened in Greater China and these are to meet the needs of the growing Chinese and wider Asian Markets. With the new capacities on stream, will the demand catch up with supply? The industry also sees more bio-based raw material growing. What is the impact of bio-based materials as more of these are commercialised? How can producers capitalise on this immense potential and compete effectively?
