The year 2025 is a big year of packaging & recycling regulations as the new PPWR full impact plays out and will have a broad reach and real economic impact. Any company that uses packaging to distribute, handle or import goods into the EU, or that supplies or imports packaging or packaging materials, is affected.

Still in doubt are questions raised on SUP directive, impact of the PPWR regulations, 2022/1616 food safety, penalties on non compliance, imported recycled materials - are there special conditions for audit and many more.

Minimum packaging design requirements must be met for packaging to be allowed on the EU market. Achieving recyclability status will allow the packaging to be on the market and will benefit from reduced EPR fees. As stricter EPR regulations are anticipated across EU, how can converters support the brandowners compliance ?

New legislation 2022/1616 classifies chemical recycling as New Technology and needs an EFSA approval. What do we know about chemically recycled polyolefins and if they are listed as food contact approved under this new legislation ?

Recycled content - A minimum amount of recycled content will have to come from post-consumer plastic waste collected and recycled in the EU or, if imported, collected and recycled in conditions equivalent to those required in the EU.

Given the amount of compliance challenges and cost, can non EU suppliers continue to supply EU competitively? And can the local EU recycling capacities meet all the recycled demand and targets ?
