PROFILE

Naoki Kawamoto graduated from the Faculty of Engineering Kyushu University in 1984. His university thesis was coal liquefaction and he has a deep knowledge of coal chemistry. He joined Japanese energy company Idemitsu Kosan in 1984 and was involved in boiler fuel conversion activities from heavy oil to coal, coal sales, coal procurement, coal mine development and operations until 2019. His work was mainly based in Tokyo, but he was stationed overseas in Beijing, China, and Brisbane, Australia, for a total of 14 years. In Brisbane, he was president of Idemitsu Australia.

Since 2016, he has been engaged in the business development of black pellets, a thermal-treated biomass solid fuel; since July 2022, he has also served as the secretariat of the Japan Black Pellet Forum, which consists of 34 Japanese black pellet consuming and supplying companies.
